October 1st, Tuesday, 7:00 p.m. – New Member Class #3
This is really a fun night as we get around to talking mostly about the daily work of our congregation. A critical part of this is to match new members with their sponsors. Lots of good connecting goes on with this. New member sponsors are being sought. Please contact the church office or any member of the Evangelism Committee if you would be willing to sponsor a new household this fall.
October 2nd, Wednesdays, 6:45 p.m. – 6th-8th Confirmation Class
We keep going with our Holy Communion unit. We get started right at 6:45 p.m. with both large and small group learning on these nights.
October 2nd, Wednesday, 8:00 p.m.—9th Grade Confirmation
Our five 9th graders will meet with Pastor Greg in the youth room to keep working on their preparations for their end of October Confirmation Sunday. On this night, a rough outline of their faith statements will be shared in the group.
October 2nd, Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. – Adult Choir – Cantata practice begins
Can it be that we will already be preparing for Christmas? Yes! With so much to work on before the December 8th performance, the Adult choir will get its first look at this years Advent/Christmas Cantata on this night.
October 6th, Sunday, 9:15 a.m.—Children’s Choir sings
This year our children will combine into one, big choir to offer their voices in worship. Thanks to Gingi Hanson for leading children’s music this year along with a host of piano players willing to play a song or two during the year. Thanks to all. Parents, it really helps if you can have your child here early for a quick rehearsal before worship. This year, the kids will warm up, then go and sit with their families before coming forward to sing later in worship.
October 6th, Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – New Member Sunday
What a blessing to be welcoming yet more new households into our congregation. Come and introduce yourself on this name tag Sunday. A simple reception will be held following worship. We receive into membership: Cory & Cherry Beck, Josh & Jennie Dede, and Chad Fechner and daughter Fern.
October 9th, Wednesday, 6:00 p.m.—Confirmation Kids to CORN MAZE
What a fun night this will be! We will meet earlier than usual in the church kitchen for a light super (6:00 p.m.) then load to get to the Harrisburg Corn Maze by 7:00 p.m. We will head for home from there by 8:00 p.m. and arrive back to church by 8:30 p.m. Drivers will be needed. A church discounted ticket for $5 will be required. (See Youth page)
October 10th, Thursday, 7:00 p.m. – Church Council Meeting
The church council will meet to conduct monthly business on this second Thursday of October. Members of Beaver Valley are always welcome to sit in on these meetings. Any business or concerns that you would like to present to the council should be made known to church council president, Gary Parker, at any time.
October 12th, Saturday, 4:30 p.m.–Kourtney Fisher/Tanner Jacobson Wedding – We will pray for these two as they have worked to make their wedding day a celebration of God’s work among them.
October 13th, Sunday, 10:35 a.m. – Pastor/Staff Appreciation
The Church in Society committee will be hosting a special reception for all of Beaver Valley’s staff following worship, just prior to our relocating out to the Outdoor Worship Area for ground-breaking ceremony.
October 13th, Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – Ground Breaking for Outdoor Worship
Pastor Greg’s opening article tries to say it all: “making memories” is what this Ground Breaking ceremony will do. Beaver Valley is alive in faith and confident in its future is certainly the visual message that the new Pavilion will convey. Bring a shovel if you like! Gather for a picture on this historic day.
October 15th, Tuesday, 7:00 p.m.—First Communion Training
Fifth graders and their parents will meet on this first night of preparing for the youth to receive their first communion (November 3). This first meeting will last one hour. It is intended for youth and parents. On the 22nd of October, the following Tuesday, will be a youth only night as they will work with me on Daniel Erlander’s book as well as take time out to paint their chalices (to get them ready for getting fired in the kiln before we use them on November 3rd!) October 16th, Wednesday, 7:45 p.m. – Band Rehearsal
October 17th, Thursday, 7:00 p.m. – Women’s “gather” Bible Study
We continue to meet on the third Thursday of the month. This is a group anyone can join at any time. I hope for a music room full of women of the church as we work to support one another in faith. Pastor Greg
October 19th, Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – Art Gathering– Bring your supplies and join other art enthusiasts on the 3rd Sat. morning of each month in the Fellowship Hall at 9am. This is a great time for those who enjoy doing artwork-watercolor painting, acrylics, drawing etc. – to gather to work on their projects and to learn from and inspire one another. October 20th, Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – Guest Pastor Lane Loman
We are blessed to have Pastor Lane Loman sharing with us his thoughts on living a life of faith as he looks back to last October 31st and his experience of being in Luther’s Wittenberg Chapel on the day commemorating the 500th anniversary of the birth of the Protestant Church. “Luther Through a Different Lens” is the topic for the day. Other congregations are being invited. Let’s pack the church for this chance to reflect upon the importance of the Reformation for all of Christianity.
October 27th, Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – Reformation / Confirmation Sunday
Five of Beaver Valley’s youth will say “yes” to God’s claim upon them in the waters of their baptism during worship on this Reformation Sunday. A simple reception will be held in their honor after worship. New, red stoles will be placed across their shoulders as they step into an adult life of faith within the congregation.
