December 1st, Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – Guest Speaker Rebel Herd
In celebration of our partnership with Church on the Street (yearly budget support), we welcome ELCA mission developer and seminary student, Rebel Herd. She has been willing in the past to include our youth in her work with the homeless community around Sioux Falls and has made an impact in their lives. After worship, she will meet with Beaver Valley senior high and middle school youth in the youth room.
December 1st, Sunday – NO SUNDAY SCHOOL
Everyone takes a break over this late Fall holiday, ready to come back for the final push of preparing for the Christmas program and the sharing of our music up at Bethany Meadows on Wednesday, December 4th.
December 1st – Sunday, 4:00 p.m. – Worship at Bethany This is a monthly, Holy Communion worship service led by Pastor Greg. He appreciates the fact that volunteers help him serve communion each month. If you are interested in helping at this service, please contact Pastor Greg before the 1st and he will fill you in on the details.
December 3rd, Tuesdays, 9:00 a.m. & 6:00 p.m. – Yoga classes
Yoga meets two different times on Tuesdays with Beaver Valley’s own Gingi Hanson. Through meditation, stretching, and breathing techniques, you will be led to a sense of peace and well-being. All are welcome. If you have questions, please contact Gingi at 582-6448.
December 4th, Wednesdays, 6:45 p.m. – Confirmation
We pick up with lesson #3 of our worship unit. We will on this night divide up into servant groups in anticipation of our serving out in the community on December 18th.
December 4th, Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. – Adult Choir
Practice continues for the Christmas Cantata which will be performed on December 8th. Shelly Berg (director) and Gingi Hanson (accompanist) will provide the musical talents required to bring our Beaver Valley adult choir to life! New voices are always welcome!
December 4th, Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. – Sunday School kids sing at Bethany
We will see how ready the kids are to share the music of our Christmas program up at Bethany Meadows. Thank you parents for arriving fifteen minutes early before this brief little program takes place.
December 5th, Thursdays, 7:00 a.m. – Men’s Breakfast
This is our chance for some “small group” time. We meet at Tailgators restaurant for good food and fellowship and some faith talk mixed in. Our numbers are growing! Come and join in. We order right away and folks can leave when they need to leave.
December 7th, Saturday, 9:30 a.m. – Adult Choir – Cantata Rehearsal
This is always an important morning as the finishing touches are put on the Cantata the day before the performance in both congregations.
December 7th, Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. — Church cleaning
A congregation-wide call is being made for folks to come with their cleaning clothes on and supplies in hand! We will spread out and take different parts of the church and do some clean-up of our often less-used parts of the church. Come when you can, stay for as long as you have time. Brooms and dust pans, wash rags and buckets, shop-vacs, shorter step stools and ladders, all needed.
December 7th, Saturday, 6:41 p.m. – Senior High Fun Night
This night of fun is for our 9th -12th graders. On this night we will keep talking about our December 18th, Church on the Street mission night.
December 8th, Sunday, 8:45 a.m. – “Joy” Parish Life Group Meeting
The Joy Parish Life Group will meet before church on Sunday, December 8th. We will be looking ahead to the months of January, February, and March and talk about the P.L.G.’s ability to support the regular hospitality needs of the congregation.
December 8th, Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – Christmas Cantata
This has become quite the pre-Christmas tradition for us. The combined choirs of First Lutheran Church, Valley Springs and our own Beaver Valley Lutheran adult choirs will present the cantata, “Bethlehem’s Child.” Make sure and invite a friend to receive this vocal offering.
December 11th, Wednesday, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. – Dress Rehearsal for Children’s Christmas Program
December 11th, Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. – NO Adult Choir
December 12th, Thursday, 7:00 p.m. – Church Council Meeting
The church council will meet to conduct monthly business on this second Thursday of December. Members of Beaver Valley are always welcome to sit in on these meetings. Any business or concerns that you would like to present to the council should be made known to church council president, Gary Parker, at any time.
December 15th, Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – Christmas Program
We will leave the front pews for parents and visiting relatives on this special day. The children’s retelling of the Christmas story is the message for the day. Kids with parts in costume will arrive the earliest on this Sunday. All Children will warm up and be ready for the program fifteen minutes before worship begins. More details from the directors!
December 18th, Wednesday—Confirmation Servant Night
We will again break our confirmation class into several groups and go out and serve our neighbors in the spirit of Christmas. Youth will serve at the St. Francis House as well as take hot-chocolate and Christmas caroling to the homeless shelters in Sioux Falls.
December 18th, Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. – NO Adult Choir
December 19th, Thursday, 7:00 p.m. – Women’s “gather” Bible Study
We continue to meet on the third Thursday of the month. This is a group anyone can join at any time. I hope for a music room full of women of the church as we work to support one another in faith. Pastor Greg
December 21st, Saturday, 9:00 a.m. – Art Gathering
Bring your supplies and join other art enthusiasts on the 3rd Sat. morning of each month in the Fellowship Hall at 9am. This is a great time for those who enjoy doing artwork-watercolor painting, acrylics, drawing etc. – to gather to work on their projects and to learn from and inspire one another. December 24th, Tuesday—5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Candlelight Services
This is a night to come together and remind one another that this world is made for peace and, God says, is worth a Christ-child born for the “all peoples.” Come and sing the traditional songs of Christmas; hear the words of the Christmas prophet, Isaiah and the Christmas stories as found in St. Luke and John’s gospels; and light a candle in the dark of the night.
December 25th, Wednesday, CHRISTMAS DAY – Office closed
December 29th – Sunday, 9:30 a.m. – Christmas sweater Sunday
We will enjoy the traditional Lessons and Carols order of worship again on this First Sunday in the Christmas season. Lots of singing, a brief Sunday morning devotion and a potluck of treats brought by all. And yes, feel free to wear a Christmas sweater!
December 30th—Monday—Last day of the year for financial Contributions
The Sunday offering will be counted and any offerings that are dropped off during Monday office hours (8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.) will be counted as 2019 donations. THANK YOU all for your support of God’s work in this place!
